Teaching Leadership

Brandon loves to dictate to people especially his brother, I see this as leadership. However, I am trying to teach him that while I believe he has great leadership ability there is more to leading than dictating.
When I was in a leadership with the homeschool support group I wanted to change my title to guider or something similar, because that is what leaders are suppose to do, guide. Leaders are people who listen to what others have to say and ask for their input on ideas. It is than the leaders job to help the group move forward to achieve the goals and or ideas set forth.
Today in my in-box I received a notice about five webinars being conducted by five Christian leaders, sponsored and hosted by College Plus. How they got my information I don't know, but I signed up for them. I love the overall title for the series, which is what really got my attention, "How To Prepare Your Children To Be Influencers Who Can Lead." Here is the schedule, you can sign up for them individually or all of them at once.

Once I registered I received two emails, one which assumed I wanted more information on College Plus and another confirming the webinar. I took a look at the registration packet which is their website and checked out their blog which contains a link for a free e-book entitled "The Official Homeschooler’s Guide to Dual Credit." I tried to download it, but the section for the student's birth date was not working, I have sent them a message. They have some good stuff on the blog, so I signed up for that also.
Than I noticed at the top "Practice CLEP Tests," so I thought I would share that information as well. I am going to list the blog and tests under resources, so if you don't get them now and do not want to have to search the blog you can get them easily.

In My Email Today

I started subscribing to various newsletters to be able to determine which ones were truly worth having in my email box. Now with a high schooler on the way I have subscribed to newsletters geared towards him and our new adventure.
Today I received my weekly newsletter from Lee Benz The Homescholar and was surprised to see Win a Free Course from Founders Academy. However this contest is only for those who receive Lee's newsletter which contains helpful information on homeschooling the high school years.
I also am a member on various Yahoo e-groups, one for Homeschooling through College. This morning someone asked about Khan Academy, I heard of them and clicked on the link to refresh my memory. This site is free and includes various online videos and practice areas for mainly high school math and science. They also have videos and practice for the SAT. The practice is very simple with an equation being put up and a box where the student types in the answer.
There is so much information on the internet which can benefit homeschoolers. Newsletters and Yahoo groups are two great resources, I chose the daily digest for the Yahoo groups I belong to so my email is not overwhelmed. And when I deem a newsletter no longer needed I just unsubscribe, but not before I let others know the benefits.

Lee Benz The Home Scholar
I found Ms Benz about a year ago and must admit I was turned off by the subscribe for so much money. While I did subscribe to her newsletter I was stubborn about paying for information I so much needed.
Recently I joined a webinar she was giving through a blog I subscribe to "Raising Arrows." After just one webinar I was relieved of many burdens I had about homeschooling high school. For those who attended, Ms Benz issued a package for $47.00, well this woman in an hour had relieved me of so much I had to have it.

I received various documents such as transcript templates with examples, audios for various topics, sample grading, a month of 20 minute calls, once a week, with Ms Benz, a months access to the silver club and more. Well worth the money I spent. I have used one of my calls and afterward she sent me more stuff! This woman is a true blessing to those of us who are just starting out on this new part of our homeschool adventure.
Ms Benz obviously realizes that not everyone can afford the wonderful resources she has to offer and has develop a series of parent training classes, webinars, on the following topics.

1.) Homeschool Planning - Your Goals this Year
2.) Getting the Big Scholarships
3.) College Scholarships for High School Credits
4.)Planning High School Courses
5.) Making the Grades
Each class is only $15.00 so you can chose the class or classes you have an interest in or need more knowledge on. However you can get these classes at a discount from now until June 14, 2011. I am blogging this late so we all missed out on the 50% discount, however you can still get classes at 30% today. See below for discounts through the 14th.

June 4 - 5 is 50% Off
June 6 - 7 is 40% Off
June 8 - 9 is 30% Off educate30
June 10 - 11 is 20% Off
June 12 - 13 is 10% Off
Each discount has its own promotional code which is not revieled until the day before the discount starts. I will list them here in case anyone changes their mind, but I suggest you get in on this now.
